Owls are often associated with wisdom, and that symbolism is present in this piece. But I wanted to draw attention to another aspect of that wisdom: the role of the owl as a guardian.

Years ago, while living the solo van life and camping alone, I had an experience where an owl warned me of danger and seemed to guard me through the night. Since then, I’ve felt that owls carry a kind of spiritual wisdom that allows them to protect, warn, and keep watch.

They are creatures of the dark hours, alert when the rest of the world sleeps. In this painting, the owl represents that watchful presence — the quiet guardian that senses what we cannot yet see.
