Let’s be clear on something: I am a feminist. Which means I believe in equality and celebrate women as a gender. That does not mean I hate men.
I wanted to take a moment with this painting to pay tribute to the man in my life, my husband Zerach, and to all the men who stand beside strong women like myself without trying to diminish them. The men who do not feel threatened by a woman’s greatness or power. The men who are secure enough in themselves to fully support strong feminist women.
This piece is called Symbiotic because, if you are a feminist in a relationship, you know that men who feel threatened by your strength will only hold you back from your potential. But when you are with a stronger man, a better man, one who stands beside you, supports you, and remains secure in himself, that relationship becomes something powerful.
This painting is meant to honor that kind of partnership and serve as a reminder of the important role that mutual strength plays in a lasting relationship. Because (particularly in a healthy monogamous heterosexual relationship), a strong woman can only truly thrive with a strong man beside her.
Here’s to strength and symbiosis.
